Red Flags To Check In Your Design Interviews
How to work out if a team is right for you, and what it's going to be like to work in that company, or with that team. A quick guide.
I’ve recently stumbled upon Red Flags To Check In Your Design Interviews, a quick guide on how to work out if a team is right for you, and what it's going to be like to work in that company, or with that team. A great reminder, kindly put together by Morgane Peng, with a few useful pointers:
- Your interviewers aren't all recent hires.
- Design decisions aren’t made by managers.
- Designers aren’t expected to do non-design tasks.
- People seem to feel positive about their colleagues.
- There seems to be a proper onboarding process in place.
- Design process isn’t stale but evolves over time.
Wonderful points, and I would expand it a little bit to make sure the company has at least some commitment to design and UX, and an inclusive and supportive culture :
- The company is public about its values and beliefs.
- There is a well-defined design career ladder.
- There are regular 1:1-meetings and feedback sessions.
- There is a commitment to user research and UX.
- The environment seems to be inclusive, diverse and supportive.
